Sener has announced that it is ready to start final tests at the Noor Ouarzazate III solar tower power plant in Morocco.
The developer says that it completed first synchronization of the 150 MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant in August, and is taking the last steps needed before commercial operation and final delivery to its customer.
This plant is the second unit designed and built by Sener using its own central receiver tower and molten salt heat storage technology, and one of the first ones in the world to apply this configuration on a commercial scale. Sener says it expects to hand the facility over to clients ACWA Masen at the end of 2018.
Noor Ouarzazate consists of a solar field of 7400 heliostats that focus the sun’s radiation onto a reveiver at the top of a 250 m tower. It also uses molten salt thermal energy storage technology that enables the plant to produce energy for up to 7.5 hours at night.
