Plans for the construction of a new biomass fired power plant in northern England have been announced by HRS Energy.

The 22 MW plant will be built in Tasterne, Yorkshire and will process up to 175 000 tonnes of waste wood each year. It will use HRS’s fluidized bed combustion technology.

"HRS Energy’s pioneering technology is the best available for this development, delivering cost and efficiency benefits while producing low levels of emissions," said Mark Wickham, MD of HRS Energy. "Thanks to our efficient standardised modular design, the plant will be operational and generating electricity for homes and businesses in just over a year."

The £35 million project has received planning permission and is due to start operating in 2017, HRS said.
