INNIO Group has announced a 1.5 gigawatt order from VoltaGrid for 300 Jenbacher gas engines to support on-site power generation at AI and high-performance computing data centres across the United States.
The deal calls for delivery of Type J624 and J620 series engines by 2028. Packaged into 25 MW modules via VoltaGrid’s QPac platform, these units enable rapid deployment to meet surging electricity demands from AI workloads without relying on grid upgrades or battery storage.
The partnership addresses critical power challenges in the AI boom, where data centres face volatile GPU loads and high ambient temperatures. INNIO’s engines deliver prime, backup, and peaking power with fast transient response and sustained efficiency, integrating seamlessly with VoltaGrid’s portable power systems.
This collaboration builds on joint development work, positioning both firms to capitalise on data centre expansion while advancing flexible, resilient energy options beyond traditional grid limits.
