Masdar has signed a deal to build a 100 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in Uzbekistan.
The Abu Dhabi-based clean energy company has today signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Government Support Agreement (GSA) with the government of Uzbekistan to design, finance, build and operate the plant for 25 years.
The project will be the first in Uzbekistan to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, Masdar said.
The company won a competitive tender for a license to build the project, submitting a bid of ¢2.679/kWh, according to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade.
The tender was part of the country’s Scaling Solar programme and attracted more than 40 bidders.
Construction of the plant will begin in Navoi region in the second quarter of 2020, with commissioning scheduled for the second quarter of 2021.
Uzbekistan is aiming to install 1 GW of solar PV by 2030.
