The £1 billion ($1.95 billion) development would be designed to accommodate ‘carbon capture and storage’ technology, the company said.
Operational by 2013, the two 800 MW units will be capable of co-firing biomess and have the capacity to reduce carbon emissions intensity by 22%, RWE says.
Andy Duff, chief executive of RWE npower, the UK arm of the German giant, said: “Coal is a vital component of the UK’s future generation mix, but the environmental impact must be addressed.”
