The New York Power Authority (NYPA) has released a draft of its Updated Strategic Plan aiming to expand renewable energy and energy storage projects across New York State.

The draft outlines 20 new renewable generation projects and 156 energy storage initiatives, totalling over 3.8 GW of capacity. Combined with previous projects, the plan envisions nearly 7 GW of clean energy capacity.

The plan includes 17 solar projects, three wind projects, and extensive energy storage infrastructure spanning various regions in the state.

NYPA President and CEO Justin Driscoll emphasised the focus on diversified emission-free power generation amid federal uncertainties.

Additionally, the NYPA Board of Trustees has approved economic development awards to stimulate nearly $395 million in private investments, including allocations under the ReCharge NY program distributing low-cost power to companies across regions such as the Capital District and Long Island.

Moreover, the New York State Public Service Commission has approved infrastructure projects valued at $636.2 million to address grid constraints, adding 642 MW of electrification capacity to aid decarbonisation in transportation and buildings, involving companies like Consolidated Edison and National Grid.
