Ørsted has appointed Peter Hepburn as its new Head of Generation UK, taking responsibility for the operation of one of the world’s largest offshore wind portfolios. He will begin the role on 1 October 2026.
The appointment comes as Ørsted prepares for the next phase of growth in its UK renewable energy business, including the planned commissioning of the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.
Hepburn joins Ørsted from Spirit Energy, where he was most recently served as operations director. He brings more than 30 years of experience in offshore operations, asset management and leadership roles across safety-critical energy industries.
In his new position, Hepburn will oversee Ørsted’s UK offshore wind generation fleet, which includes 12 operational wind farms, almost 1,000 offshore turbines and around 5.7 GW of installed renewable capacity.
His previous roles include senior positions at EnQuest and Maersk Oil, where he held responsibilities spanning operations, asset management, health and safety, assurance and organisational improvement.
Godson Njoku, chief generation officer at Ørsted, said: “Peter joins Ørsted at an exciting time for our UK business. His extensive operational experience, proven leadership and deep understanding of safety-critical offshore industries make him exceptionally well placed to lead one of the world’s largest offshore wind generation portfolios.”
Njoku added that Hepburn’s experience would support the company as it expands its UK fleet while maintaining safe and reliable operations.
Hepburn said: “The UK is at the forefront of offshore wind, and Ørsted has played a central role in building one of the world’s leading renewable energy portfolios.”
The appointment comes as offshore wind operators face increasing pressure to improve reliability, manage ageing assets and integrate large volumes of renewable generation into national power systems.
Hepburn’s background in operational improvement and asset-intensive industries is expected to support Ørsted’s focus on maintaining performance across its existing fleet while delivering future projects.
Beyond his corporate roles, Hepburn has contributed to industry initiatives through Step Change in Safety and other groups focused on workforce engagement, asset integrity and major accident prevention. He is a Chartered Engineer and holds postgraduate qualifications in process technology and management.
