Vienna-based Renalfa IPP has commissioned a 65 MW / 260 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at its hybrid renewable project in Tenevo, Bulgaria. The facility is one of Europe’s largest co-located BESS installations and brings Renalfa IPP’s operational storage capacity to more than 1 GWh.

Developed through Tenevo Solar Technology – a partnership between Eurowind Energy and Renalfa IPP – and delivered with project management by Solarpro Bulgaria, the system uses battery technology from Hithium and Kehua.

This commissioning represents the first phase of a larger hybrid initiative – known as the Tenevo Hybrid Renewable Project – that will eventually integrate 238 MWp of solar generation and 315 MW / 760 MWh of battery capacity by early 2026.

Once complete, Tenevo will become Bulgaria’s largest hybrid energy project, combining solar, wind, and storage in one location.
