Polish energy company Tauron has delayed commercial operations at its 910 MW Jaworzno III coal-fired power plant project because of technical difficulties during the commissioning process.
Tauron has announced that components at one the plant’s boilers were damaged during trial operations in February, pushing commercial operations back from July to November 2020.
The damage occurred during the last phase of testing for supercritical parameters. Tauron and its partners in the project – Rafako and NJGT – have undertaken work to inspect the damage and determine the scope of work necessary to replace damaged parts.
The PLN6 billion ($1.3 billion) project will replace older units currently operated by Tauron at the Jaworzno site in southern Poland. It was initially expected to be operational in late 2019, but had been delayed several times.
