Vestas has secured the first global order for its newly launched V182-7.2MW wind turbine, with Swedish developer SR Energy ordering four machines for the 29 MW Staverhult project.
The order was placed one day after Vestas introduced the turbine to the market. It covers turbine supply, delivery and commissioning, together with a 35-year Active Output Management 5000 service agreement.
The Staverhult wind farm is being developed by SR Energy in southern Sweden, where the larger rotor is intended to increase electricity production from sites with suitable wind conditions. Turbine deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2028, with commissioning planned for the third quarter.
The V182-7.2MW is the latest development of Vestas’ EnVentus platform. The turbine combines a 7.2 MW generator with a 182m rotor and incorporates changes to the existing platform aimed at increasing energy capture while retaining established turbine components and production processes.
Vestas said the turbine is intended to provide greater flexibility for project development and improve the economics of sites where higher annual energy production can help support investment.
Serial production of the V182-7.2MW is scheduled to ramp up from the end of 2027, ahead of deliveries for Staverhult.
The 29 MW project is expected to add renewable generation to Sweden’s electricity system once operational. SR Energy CEO Peter Zachrisson said the company expects the project to contribute to electricity supply in southern Sweden, where additional generation can help address regional demand and transmission requirements.
Vestas Northern and Central Europe sales senior vice-president Jens Kück said the Staverhult order demonstrates that the new turbine is ready for customer projects shortly after its launch.
The order also provides an early commercial application for the updated EnVentus platform. Its long-term service agreement gives Vestas responsibility for supporting turbine performance over the project’s planned operating period, subject to the terms of the contract.
