The Israeli company SDE Energy and Desalination Ltd has secured a deal to sell a commercial wavepower generation unit to an Indian company. The name of the Indian company has not been released, but the deal is claimed to be worth $4 million.

The SDE system is based on a pneumatic wave energy converter that exploits the motion of the sea. The power plant takes energy from the pressure generated by the waves.

The company believes its system is ideally suited to use by underdeveloped nations that can exploit their coastal resource. The power plant can be coupled with a desalination plant, costing an additional $6 million and generating 500 m3 each hour
