HIVE Digital Technologies has signed a definitive agreement to develop an additional 100 MW of data centre capacity at its Yguazú site in Paraguay. The new facility will be powered by hydroelectric energy supplied from the Itaipú Dam.
The project, known as Phase 3, will increase HIVE’s total data centre capacity in Paraguay to 400 MW, all powered by existing renewable generation from Itaipú. When complete, the Yguazú complex is expected to be the largest hydro-powered data centre operation in the country.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with full commissioning expected in the third quarter of that year. The expansion is part of HIVE’s plan to reach 35 exahash per second (EH/s) of Bitcoin computing capacity by 2026.
Phase 3 follows the completion of Phases 1 and 2 earlier in 2025, which brought the Yguazú site to 300 MW of hydro-powered operations. Once the new phase is completed, HIVE’s total renewable-powered infrastructure will reach 540 MW across Paraguay, Canada, and Sweden.
For 2026, HIVE plans to continue scaling both its Bitcoin mining and HPC operations, powered entirely by renewable energy. The company targets more than 35 EH/s in Bitcoin capacity and a fivefold increase in HPC and AI computing capacity.
