Belgium-based offshore contractor DEME, through its joint venture CDWE in Taiwan, has secured a major contract for the Formosa 4 offshore wind project. The scope of work covers the transport and installation of 35 foundations, the offshore substation, and scour protection.

Formosa 4, developed by Synera Renewable Energy, will be situated about 20 km off Taiwan’s Miaoli County. Once operational, the project will deliver up to 495 MW of renewable energy, contributing to Taiwan’s efforts to expand its offshore wind capacity and transition to green energy.

The contract will mobilise several vessels from DEME’s fleet, including Green Jade, a floating installation vessel designed and built in Taiwan by CDWE. Foundation installation works are planned to begin in the first half of 2027, subject to the project’s final investment decision.

Frank Jonckheere, general manager of DEME Asia-Pacific Offshore Energy, said the new award strengthens DEME’s long-standing presence in Taiwan’s offshore sector. He noted that the company, through CDWE, aims to foster local expertise in marine engineering and offshore operations while delivering integrated solutions for renewable energy projects.

DEME established CDWE in 2019 as Taiwan’s first offshore wind contractor and has since supported several major projects, including Zhong Neng, Changfang Xidao, Hai Long, and Greater Changhua.

Operating globally across the offshore energy, dredging, marine infrastructure, and environmental sectors, the company also recently won a contract for the OranjeWind offshore wind project in the Netherlands involving inter-array cable and secondary steel installation.
