Envision Energy is supplying 124 of its 6.5 MW wind turbines for Kazakhstan’s 1 GW Mirny Wind Farm, the country’s largest renewable energy project to date. The agreement was signed during Kazakhstan Energy Week in Astana, with project partners TotalEnergies, Samruk-Energo JSC, and KazMunayGas in attendance.
Developed by Aktas Energy, a partnership between TotalEnergies, Samruk-Energo JSC, and KazMunayGas, the Mirny project aims to generate an estimated 4 billion kWh annually, and reduce CO2 emissions by roughly 3.5 million tons each year. A 300 MW / 600 MWh battery energy storage system will support grid reliability and help Kazakhstan move toward carbon neutrality by 2060.
The first turbines are expected to arrive in late 2026, with construction beginning the same year. The project prioritises ready-to-proceed renewable energy installations and aligns with Kazakhstan’s goal of achieving 15% renewable energy in its national energy mix by 2030.
John Lee, General Manager of Asia & Africa Markets at Envision Energy, said the project illustrates the potential of international collaboration and technological innovation to advance renewable energy development in Central Asia. Thierry Plaisant, Managing Director for TotalEnergies Renewables Kazakhstan, highlighted the project’s role in supporting sustainable energy infrastructure and local development.
