Mirova and Evecon’s Baltic Renewable Energy Platform (BREP) is equipping Estonia’s 77.5 MWp Kirikmäe solar PV plant, which has been operational since October 2024, with a 55 MW/250 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Mirova is a Paris-based sustainable investment firm and affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, focusing on green infrastructure. Evecon is an Estonian renewable energy developer specialising in solar and storage projects.

Battery construction started in January, with completion expected in the second half of 2026. Engineering, procurement and construction is being handled by WiSo Engineering, while the batteries, power conversion equipment, and medium-voltage components are being supplied by Huawei.

Once operational the hybrid facility will store excess solar output for later use and provide grid-stability services such as Frequency Containment Reserve (FCR) and both automatic and manual Frequency Restoration Reserves (aFRR and mFRR), which have become critical after the Baltic states’ independence from the Russian BRELL grid.

BREP also signed a 10-year Flexibility & Power Purchase Agreement (FPPA) with German energy trader Pure Energy for output from Kirikmäe as well as the 15.5 MWp Imavere and 12.8 MWp Lohu Mets solar plants, combining renewable electricity sales with optimisation of flexible capacity.

Swedbank, a Swedish bank active in the Baltics and BREP backer since 2023, is providing €85 million in long-term financing for the expansion.
