Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched the seventh round of the Saudi Arabian government’s National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), issuing a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for 3.1 GW of solar capacity across four projects in Saudi Arabia. These include a 1.4 GW (AC) solar plant near Hima in Al-Jouf province, a 600 MW (AC) facility near Bisha in Asir province, a 500 MW (AC) plant planned for Madinah, and a 600 MW (AC) project near Mawqaq in Hail province. Developers selected through this tender must build, own, and operate the facilities on a BOO basis, with pre-qualification submissions due by 29 September, 2025.

This round follows the previous auction launched in September 2024, which aimed to allocate 3 GW of solar capacity across four other projects located in Najran, Jizan, and Hail provinces. Earlier rounds have included large-scale projects such as the 2 GW Al Sadawi plant and the 1 GW Al Masa’a project, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s continued rapid growth in renewable energy deployment under the NREP.

SPPC’s latest tender is part of the Kingdom’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and advance its Vision 2030 clean energy targets. Saudi Arabia aims to more than double its grid-connected renewable power capacity by the end of 2026, building on a fast-expanding portfolio that has already integrated over 10 GW of renewables.

The National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) is a key component of this transition, deploying major solar and wind projects across the country while encouraging private sector investment through competitive tenders and power purchase agreements.
