Skyborn Renewables has secured a key permit for its 976.5 MW Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, clearing the way for a potential final investment decision in 2026 and commissioning in 2028.

Approved on 16 December by the State Office for Agriculture and Environment in Stralsund and formally handed over in Rostock, the permit allows construction and operation of 63 state-of-the-art 15 MW-class turbines, increasing the project’s maximum capacity from 927 MW to 976.5 MW without expanding its overall footprint.

Once operational, Gennaker is expected to generate around 4 TWh of green electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of about one million households, and will sit about 15 km north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in a designated priority zone for offshore wind in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Regional environment minister Dr. Backhaus described Gennaker as a flagship project for the German Baltic Sea, highlighting that the approval incorporates high environmental standards to ensure environmentally friendly construction and operation.

Skyborn CEO Patrick Lammers said the project reflects the company’s strategy to deliver high-quality offshore wind in stable markets using proven technology, while Project Director Lars Muck noted that the permit puts Gennaker in a strong position to move through FID and into a two‑year construction phase that will support long-term local employment and strengthen Germany’s secure, sustainable energy supply.
