European Energy has inaugurated its first hybrid renewable energy park in Sweden, combining solar and wind generation at a single site in Kronoberg County.
The Skåramåla facility integrates an eight-turbine, 49.6 MW wind farm with a 39.3 MWp solar park, together expected to produce around 126 GWh of electricity annually. By combining wind and solar, the project offers more consistent power generation, as wind and sun typically peak at different times of day and seasons.
The entire project, developed and constructed by European Energy, uses one grid connection point to cut operating and construction costs. Located in a forested, rocky area, the developers employed measures to limit environmental impact, including using site soil to reduce transport needs and enhancing biodiversity through pond preservation, new habitats, and pollinator-friendly planting.
The inauguration was marked by Kronoberg County’s governor, Maria Arnholm, who officially connected the wind and solar cables.
The project is the first of three hybrid parks European Energy plans to build in Sweden, with Grevekulla in Ydre Municipality already under construction.
This development aligns with the Swedish government’s ambitious goal to achieve 100% renewable electricity production by 2040, with hydropower and bioenergy currently the top renewable sources.
