Taiwan’s 640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) has officially entered full commercial operation.

The project, developed by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd (Yunneng), consists of 80 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines in the Taiwan Strait. It has secured all necessary licences, met regulatory requirements, and fulfilled financing obligations, transitioning into its long-term operations and maintenance phase.

Yunneng is a joint venture between Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, EGCO Group, and Sojitz Corporation. Under the operating agreement, TotalEnergies will oversee technical operations, while Skyborn manages other services.

The wind farm achieved full grid connection in January 2025 and will deliver around 2,400 GWh of clean electricity annually. It is expected to meet 90% of Yunlin County’s non-industrial demand and cut 1.2 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

Located 8-17 km off Taiwan’s west coast, the 82 km² site transmits power via two onshore substations near Taixi and Sihu. Electricity is supplied to Taiwan Power Company (TPC) under two 20-year power purchase agreements.

Backed by a global and local financing consortium established in 2019, Yunlin OWF is seen as a benchmark for offshore wind development and green financing in Taiwan.
