Shell has announced that it will build a wood fired power plant, at a cost of 45 million DM, at Milmersdorf, Germany. With 100 000 tonne of otherwise unused wood residues the plant is to produce about 80 GWh per year. Shell intends to construct several such wood power plants in the near future and will thus add a further technology to its renewables energy portfolio, which up to now has mainly been solar and wind energy.
